SALT LAKE CITY (March 26, 2025) – Today, Sutherland Institute released new research on parent-driven education in America from education policy fellow Christine Cooke Fairbanks. The paper finds that America has a long-history of parent-driven education, and its benefits for students are not new. The research also shows a revival of this principle is taking place throughout the country, and identifies relevant policy reforms.
Policy recommendations from the research:
- Boost funding for the Utah Fits All Scholarship Program.
- Increase parent access to information regarding curriculum and classroom engagement.
- Improve Utah’s open enrollment law and information shared with parents about open enrollment.
