Utah’s 2025 annual general legislative session began on Jan. 21 and will conclude on March 7. At 45 days, Utah’s session is the shortest in the nation. During this timeframe, how can Utahns stay in touch with their legislators and keep an eye on the issues that matter to them? Below, we provide a quick crash course to help.
Who are my legislators?
The Utah Legislature website includes a way for you to input your home address and find your state representative and senator. That tool can be accessed here.
“The state’s legislative website provides many ways for Utahns to track what is happening during the session,” said Stan Rasmussen, Sutherland vice president of government affairs. “They can learn about their representative and senator, proposals they and other legislators are pursuing, committee meeting schedules and agendas, and watch or listen to committee discussions and participate in those meetings if they wish to do so.”
Where can I monitor committees?
During the session, as committees meet to discuss bills you care about, you can stay updated by finding each committee here. After you click on a specific committee, its meeting schedule, members and assigned bills will be displayed. If you want to receive email updates on specific committees, be sure to create a legislative account and click to subscribe on each relevant committee page.
“The openness and transparency of the state’s legislative process enable Utahns to monitor and provide input as committees meet, whether in person or by watching and participating online,” said Amaya Mueller, Sutherland’s policy outreach manager.
How can I track a specific bill?
After creating your legislative account, you can sign up for updates on specific bills by selecting the “Track this” button under each bill. All bills being considered in the 2025 session, listed by number, can be found here. Bills listed by legislative sponsor, subject or committee can be found here. To follow the process and progress of bills, you can keep an eye on the reading calendars for the House and Senate here.
As the legislative session continues, be sure to check Sutherland’s blog, Insights & Takeaways, and its podcast, Defending Ideas, for expert input and analysis on many of the important issues in Utah. These resources allow for more streamlined engagement with the policy process than ever before. We encourage you to reach out and make your voice heard during the legislative session.
