August 27, 2024

SALT LAKE CITY (August 27, 2024) – Today, Sutherland Institute released a new research publication on parent engagement in public schools and how to strengthen parent access policies.

The new research, authored by Sutherland’s education policy fellow, Christine Cooke Fairbanks, offers recommendations to increase parental involvement in the classroom by strengthening the parent-teacher partnership.

Highlights from the research:

  • 17 states have passed legislation that strengthens parent access policies.
  • 41 Utah school districts have some parent access policy on the books, and 27 display information about curriculum directly on their website.
  • Recommendations include implementing incentives for teachers who proactively give parents access to curriculum information.
