SALT LAKE CITY (February 15, 2023) – Sutherland Institute announced today that the Caleb Chapman Crescent Super Band will be headlining its annual Gala on March 23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
“Caleb Chapman is a local musical legend that has gained international fanfare for his exemplary performances. His Crescent Super Band consists of Utah’s most prestigious youth musicians and displays the bright future that our up-and-coming generation possesses,” said Rick Larsen, Sutherland president and CEO. “We are incredibly honored and excited to have them as our headline entertainment. I am sure that our attendees will be inspired by their performance.”
Organized in 2001 under the direction of Caleb Chapman, the Crescent Super Band has frequently been hailed as one of the best professional bands in the world to be composed entirely of young musicians. With a youthful energy and nearly unbelievable performance level, the band has performed its hip, intelligent big band arrangements for thousands.
The band has also performed at major festivals around the globe, including Germany, Cuba, England, China, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Switzerland. The band has also won 23 “Best of State” awards for Utah, including 15 consecutive years as Utah’s “Best Professional Band.”
Caleb is a Grammy-nominated band leader, executive, producer, author, saxophonist, and founder of Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse, headquartered in Salt Lake City.
As a music educator, Caleb has seen his students be honored with 95 DownBeat Awards. Then-Utah Gov. Gary Herbert presented Caleb with the prestigious 2013 “Governor’s Performing Artist Award,” given to one artist annually for significant contributions to art in Utah.
