I wholeheartedly support the LDS Church authorities’ call for civility among all those engaged in the public dialogue over same-sex marriage. In addition, their statement reminds all of us that faith leaders and people of religious conscience have First Amendment rights to share the public square with others, advocating their views, including views on marriage and morality. The free exercise of religious expression is indispensable for the well-being of society and the republic established to represent its interests.
– Utah State Sen. Stuart Reid
