I agree Paul! We don't need another reason to intertwine law enforcement into our personal property and decisions. The key is to educate parents and allow them to be responsible.

Our legal framework already places limits on parental rights when neglect or abuse is present, so the issue isn't a matter of parental rights trump all else. It's a matter of is smoking in a car harmful to children enough to warrant the regulation. I believe it is.

Which is also why the slippery slope, "we allow parents to stuff non-nutritious food into their children" argument doesn't work. Put bluntly, happy meals aren't as harmful as second hand smoke is. There are legitimate, non harmful reasons for hitting a fast food joint for lunch. There are zero times when smoking benefits society. It is destructive to individual agency and freedom. Even more so when it's forced on you as a child.

Paul,
As you, I oppose this "smoking in the car" folly.

Do you equally oppose the seatbelt law which likewise started as a bill "to protect children"?

Thanks,
Blaine Nichols
