First, I hate to disappoint you, but I don't think burners are a threat to society (conservative or otherwise). I'm fascinated by Burning Man, not scared of it.

Second, I'm writing a blog post for a conservative think tank, not an investigative piece of journalism for an objective media organization, and I am in no danger of confusing the two. :)

Third, no, I have no personal experience with Burning Man. I'm commenting on what others have written, pointing out a couple things I find interesting or amusing. Commenting on other people's reporting is done through every range of writing, from your neighbor's blog to The New York Times. This is not unusual, nor is it unethical as long as it's not plagiarized, and as long as the difference between (attributed) facts and opinion is apparent.

Thanks for reading and commenting, and please forgive my tardy reply.

Actually to understand the event better, I recommend to check out the history of the event first. And for that I highly recommend to watch Dust & Illusions (http://dustandillusions.com) and "This is Burning Man" the book! Very much worth it, and of course the documentary is a must with all its archival footage! :)

You've completely overlooked the fact that Pershing County Sheriff and the BLM Rangers are on patrol at Burning Man. The laws of Nevada and the United States still apply and are enforced, even at Burning Man. You really shouldn't be writing about something that you obviously know nothing about.
