Sutherland Institute to Host 2nd and 4th Congressional District Candidate Forums
WHAT: Sutherland Institute President Paul Mero will interview candidates for the 2nd and 4th congressional districts at two separate tele-townhall forums next week. Different than a debate, the forums will focus on the candidates’ views on a variety of policy issues and how they arrive at those views.
WHY: Conducted shortly after the party caucuses, these forums will be one of the first opportunities candidates have to court newly elected delegates. Utahns get enough stump speeches and sound bites. These forums will focus on how a candidate thinks (their framework, assumptions, thought processes)—more so than on what a candidate thinks.
WHO: The 2nd Congressional District Candidate Forum will include Jason Buck, David Clark, Cherilyn Eager and Chris Stewart.
The 4th Congressional District Candidate Forum will include Jay Cobb, Mia Love, Stephen Sandstrom and Carl Wimmer.
HOW: Sutherland Institute will be calling newly elected Republican delegates to join by phone to ask the candidates questions via a tele-townhall system. Utahns of any political persuasion are invited to call into the tele-townhall at 888-886-6603 ext. 18413# (Wednesday’s forum) and ext. 18440# (Thursday’s forum). Viewers can watch the forums via live streaming at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sutherland-tv.
Media are invited to attend in person, as candidates will be available for questions after the forums conclude.
WHEN: The 2nd Congressional District Candidate Forum will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21. The 4th Congressional District Candidate Forum will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22.
WHERE: Both forums will be held at Sutherland Institute’s headquarters in Salt Lake City at 307 W. 200 S. on the fifth floor.
