Lehi City to Receive Transparency Award from Sutherland Institute

SALT LAKE CITY – Sutherland Institute announced today that Lehi city will receive the “A+” Website Transparency award after making numerous improvements to the city’s website. Lehi is the third Utah city to receive this recognition, joining West Valley City and Lindon, which received the award earlier this year.

Last November, Sutherland Institute released grades ranking the transparency of municipal websites across the state on a scale of A to F. Based on the criteria in Sutherland’s report, Lehi’s initial score was a B-, earning seven out of a possible 10 points. The report spurred the city to make several improvements to increase the utility and transparency of its website.

“Lehi city officials have done a great job making sure their residents can access basic public information online, such as contact information for city officials, current tax rates, and city budgets,” said Derek Monson, Sutherland Institute director of policy. “Lehi has taken some especially innovative steps, posting a ‘Citizen’s Budget’ online – a brief, understandable summary of the city budget – in addition to the full budget. We commend Lehi city for going the extra mile for its constituents when it comes to government transparency.”

Sutherland Institute will attend Lehi’s city council meeting today (Tuesday, Oct. 25) at 7 p.m. to present the website transparency award to city officials.
