1.Job Opening: Director of Communications

Sutherland is looking for a Director of Communications who will serve as part of the Institute’s leadership team and core staff.  Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years of media experience, be able to effectively represent the Sutherland brand; increase name recognition with key audiences; facilitate donor giving; increase local and national media exposure; and broaden the reach and influence of the Institute’s research and education efforts.

2.Sutherland Fellow Published in Law Review about Natural Family

As California prepares for a referendum on gay marriage, Sutherland is standing up in defense of the natural family.  In a recently published issue of the North Dakota Law Review, Bill Duncan, adjunct fellow and director of the Sutherland Institute’s Center for Family and Society, presents the legal basis for defining marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman.


“In attempting to change the family to promote boundless personal autonomy and egalitarianism, the law has contributed to weakening of the family as a social institution and, by extension, the strengthening of the state vis-a-vis the social realm,” Duncan wrote.
