The largest independent clearinghouse of Utah school information, UtahSchools.org, is now available in Spanish. On Tuesday, May 27, 2008, Sutherland held a press conference to announce this new Spanish version in conjunction with the opening of Sutherland’s Center for Educational Progress.
“By giving Hispanic parents this new tool, it will really empower them,” said Sandra Plazas, a Hispanic mother of two. “While my son did just fine in public school, my daughter needed more attention. Because of my efforts to research the area schools and get her transferred, she was given the opportunity to succeed.”
Plazas said the Spanish version of the website will help Hispanic parents more effectively participate in the education process of their children. “We cannot ignore the fact that 40 percent of the Hispanic students in Utah’s system of public education are not graduating from high school.”
