1.Giving Hope to the Hopeless
In an opinion-editorial published by The Spectrum on October 30, 2007, Sutherland Institute President Paul T. Mero emphasized that school vouchers are not about the majority of Utahns, rather, they are intended to serve our low-income neighbors.
“Most of us like our own child’s public school. It works for us. But there is an unacceptable number of our neighbors who are having a different experience. In fact, they’re having a horrible experience. There is a reason why, in poll after poll, that Hispanics and African-Americans support school vouchers by the same proportion as white Utahns support their own child’s public school.”
