Sutherland Institute Welcomes …

Salt Lake City, UT – Sutherland Institute announced the addition of Representative LaVar Christensen and Stanford D. Swim to the conservative think tank’s board of trustees. In their new roles, Rep. Christensen and Mr. Swim will provide leadership and policy expertise that will help Sutherland achieve its goal of making Utah an example of good government as well as a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to continue to be engaged in the public policy arena in Utah,” said Representative Christensen. “I firmly believe in the conservative principles of limited government, the importance of the family, and free markets that Sutherland espouses, and look forward to contributing to their continued success and effectiveness.”

Representative Christensen is an attorney and was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2002. He is the author and sponsor of Utah’s Constitutional Amendment in support of marriage and has successfully sponsored important legislation that recognizes and strengthens parental rights in Utah.

Mr. Swim is the president of GFC Foundation, a Utah-based private foundation. He also serves on the board of directors of the National Council for Adoption.

Debra Washburn, chairman of the Institute’s board, said, “We are honored that Representative Christensen and Stan Swim would become part of our board. We know that their experience and insight will help us make the positive difference to which Sutherland is committed.”
