All human beings are created with the ability to learn, the desire to grow, and a unique set of strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately, the public institutions and systems intended to provide education often create barriers to learning. We believe with Ralph Waldo Emerson that “the secret of Education lies in respecting the pupil.” Parents, teachers, administrators and taxpayers deserve as many options as possible to meet the unique needs of every individual student.

Our philosophy contends that to create an educational system that meets the unique needs of children, we must first combat three widespread ideas that are holding us back:

  • All students are the same
  • Schooling is primarily about social and political objectives
  • The government is responsible for educating children
