Eagle Mountain Becomes 4th Municipality to Receive Transparency Award from Sutherland Institute

SALT LAKE CITY – Sutherland Institute announced today that Eagle Mountain will receive the A+ Website Transparency Award after making numerous improvements to the city’s website. Eagle Mountain is the fourth Utah city to receive this recognition, joining West Valley City, Lindon and Lehi.

In November 2010, Sutherland Institute released “grades” ranking the transparency of municipal websites across the state on a scale of A to F. Based on Sutherland’s report, Eagle Mountain’s initial score was a B, earning 7.5 out of a possible 10 points. The report spurred the city to increase transparency by providing thorough lobbying membership information, extensive financial audits and better city contact information.

“We applaud Eagle Mountain for its transparency push because it truly shows that the city’s officials are working for a more open, accountable government,” said Derek Monson, director of public policy for the Institute and the study’s author. “Eagle Mountain did an especially admirable job sharing very detailed bid and contract award information.”

Sutherland Institute will attend Eagle Mountain’s city council meeting tonight (Jan. 24) at 7 to present the website transparency award to city officials.
